Join Aedes Alumni & Friends, the new non-profit association that supports the Aedes programme.
Aedes was founded in 1980 by Kristin Feireiss and Helga Retzer as Europe's first private architecture gallery. In 1994, under the direction of Kristin Feireiss and Hans-Jürgen Commerell, the gallery was expanded to become the Aedes Architecture Forum, which continues to see its mission as providing a cultural platform for public discourse on the built environment that inspires civil society, professionals, and the business community alike. For over 45 years, exhibitions and events have been held here, which are generally open to the public free of charge. Today, Aedes and its team enjoy a high reputation as an institution and cultural brand that is unique in its kind. Founded in 2009, the non-profit discourse and education platform Aedes Campus will unite all event formats under one name in the future.
Aedes Alumni & Friends is a non-profit registered association that supports Aedes in its mission as described above. While part of the running costs of the Aedes Campus are covered by contributions from exhibitors and income from renting out space, lectures, workshops, symposia, and other discursive events are primarily dependent on third-party funding. The members of the association have set themselves the goal of providing this support, thereby guaranteeing the productive continuity of the independent and inspiring debate with which Aedes continually enriches the international public sphere and contributing to the further deepening of those topics that have been developed and negotiated in various forms for decades.
